Went Swimming

Hi Shiz, sorry to leave you on Tuesday, but Missy Evelyn don't want me out of her sight so she brought me home. Besides Mitter Bob and Uncle Jon wouldn't have gotten much work done wit me around. They came home Thursday and I was happy to see Griz again, but made sure he respected my territory. On Friday they decided to take the Folboat out for one last run and invited me and Griz to go. In the boat Griz acted scarred and stayed in the cockpit, but I run along the sides from stern to bow all the time. Due to being slippery, I fell into the water, not once but five times. They said I got a good doggie paddle, but pulled me back in the boat each time. They didn't like it when I shook the water off onto them, but hey, that's being a dog. Swimming is fun! I hope to go again real soon. Mitter Bob say he may take me in the sailboat - that outta be fun.

Also, I got another deer leg bone from down back and near chewed it up in one day. Mitter Bob said my poop was chalky white after that. When Grizzy left on Sunday, I wanted to go wit him and ride in the big white pick-up truck. But, noooo, Missy Evelyn say I have to stay wit her. You be good and chase Thibby for me. B

Not A Scary Place

Hi Shiz and Griz, Here is a pic from the rescue hole that me got out of Sunday night. Ya know, I still wanna go back into that burrow, but Mitter Bob says, no way!

Me examining the rescue hole the next morning. Still very interested!

Rescue of Bouncer

For those interested in the antics and travails of our little doggie -

Bouncer has always taken an interest and knows that something lives below our shed, but never before has he gone beyond getting his head and front legs under the edge. Sunday evening sometime between 5:30 and 6 when he was hooked to a tree near the shed and I worked, he dug beneath and disappeared entirely. His bark could be heard several feet forward to where he had entered a 'groundhog' hole and there was no way I could grab his 'handle' (his tail). Checking every 1/2 hour or so while we grilled and ate out on the deck, he seemed alright, but by 9:30 we were getting worried, Evelyn especially. By 10 we no longer heard much of a bark, so at 10:30 I began to dig while Evelyn held flashlights. About 1 1/2 feet down and a foot beneath the shed I hit a tunnel, but no Bouncer. I continued to enlarge the opening and follow the tunnel when a pair of eyes appeared, but not Bouncer's. When I went to the garage to get another hand tool, a 'possum emerged and slinked away according to Evelyn. Working further back in the tunnel, I first saw a paw and then Bouncer's nose. After clearing out some more dirt I able to grab the paw and collar to pull him out. Was he ever filthy dirty and we ever happy. So at 11:30 pm he gets a double bath and then dinner at midnight.

We just love our little doggie to death. And, of course, that's just being a Jack Russell terrier and doing his job.

Examining the rescue hole the next morning. He was very interested!

Hey Shiz

I had an interesting day. This morning I rode with Mitter Bob to take Missy Evelyn to the eye doctor. The visit was to last about 45' but was twice as long. Mitter Bob went to the dollar store and got me a new leash and two toys. Then we took a walk near a construction site which had a fence around it. I was more interested in following new scents while he was interested in watching the going-ons.

This afternoon I went out to help Mitter Bob. When he was spreading mulch he musta hit a yellow jacket nest, cause next thing I know was him throwing down the shovel, swattin' and swingin' at the air. Next he run to the front door a yelling to be let in. As I was hooked to the fence, I didn't see what happened inside, but understand he threw off his shorts and went on crazy-like about his eye. While he was a fussin', I got thoroughly wrapped-up around shrubs and stuff. Later I learned that he got stung at the corner of his eye, on his waist (yellow jacket in his pants) and on his leg. He wasn't very happy 'bout that so he stopped for a beer and smoke. At dinner, I had milk on my dry food - that was different and good.

BTW, I broke the squeeker in both my new squek toys in about 5 minutes. I'm gettin' good at that. Understand that I will be visiting you this weekend and that Griz will be there. Should be great fun, B

EXCITING, B!

Bouncer! What an exciting story --- but scary! I don't know what I would have done if I got stuck in a hole, of course mom said that Mitter Bob said I was too fat to get in a hole anyway (tell your pa to stop being mean to me!!!) My mom talked to your mom throughout the ordeal and seem traumatized, I was even worried about you!!!! You gave us all a good scare but we are glad you are ok --- now stay out of holes, ok!!!

I am looking forward to your visit this weekend --- 3 dogs in one house!!! We are going to have such a grand time! I just hope my skin calms down - it has been very itchy, although my mom washed me with a special shampoo (oatmeal!) this weekend -- she said I was very good at how I behaved in the bath -- and she trimmed me a little, but I was dry so I don't look all messy. In fact my coat is shinier than ever. Mom treats me so well. She has to work late nights this week, though ... so I bummed b/c I don't get to go to the doggie park b/c it is almost dark when she gets home. Hopefully the three of us can go this weekend!!!

See you soon!

I'm A Jack Russell!

Hey Shiz and Griz, would you come to my support? I just wanna sleep today and they are still getting onto me. Mitter Bob since he has an awfully sore shoulder, had to shave left handed and cut himself twice, and Missy Evelyn since she thought I was a gonner. She said she would never have another dog as she loves me so much (isn't that sweet?). They should have known better than to get a Jack Russell. Besides, I believe I would have gotten out eventually, especially if I lost some weight. Just wanting some rest and then to go back to the hole, B

What A Day!

Dear Shiz and Griz, it started out rather normal, ride to Lowes, etc. When Mitter Bob went to working around the shed in late afternoon, he hooked me to a nearby tree. Being bored, I finally had the courage to see what was under the shed that bothers me. When Mitter Bob checked, I had dug under the shed and disappeared into a burrow - he said groundshogs once lived there, but he hasn't seen them go to the shed since I came. Anyway, I found something and crawled in very deep, barking wildly as I usually do at deer, cats, etc. Mitter Bob said he thought I would come out, but around 9:30 he and Missy Evelyn, especially, got worried they said. Tired of barking for so long (Mitter Bob also said there was a low groan/growl like Thibby makes coming from the hole), I didn't bark so much and then they got very worried. They said they called Mitter Jon about what to do; also my trainer. At 10:30 Mitter Bob began to dig under the shed and finally opened into a tunnel. Using a hoe to dig further and get the dirt out a pair of beady little eyes were seen. When Mitter Bob went to the garage for a hand tool, Missy Evelyn said an 'possum came out and slinked away. Digging further he got to my paw and then he saw my nose. Then Mitter Bob reached way back wit his hands, cleared out some more dirt and then pulled me out by my paw and collar. I coulda gotten out on my own at that point.

I wanted to go back into the hole, but Mitter Bob picked me up and carried me to the house. On the deck I shook and shook and the dust just flew as I was filthy dirty. Then I drank water for a long time. Mitter Bob said bath and I knew I was in trouble (but I sorta like baths). First I was rinsed off, it was very muddy, then lather, then rinse, stilly muddy, then lather and finally a good rinse. Longest bath ever for me. Around midnight I finally got my dinner and a good talking to. This morning I slept until 8, latest ever for me, but I had stayed up much later that usual. Mitter Bob hosed the deck off this morning. Said he would take pics of the hole later. Also he has ice on a very painful shoulder. Boy, was yesterday ever exciting! Your rescued friend, B

What a day!

Hi Bouncer! Sorry I have not been writing these past two days - but today is a blah rainy day so I thought I would say hello, esp. since I don't want to go outside! Sounds like you have been a little bored - but not to worry, we will fix that next weekend when you are down to visit again!

Yesterday was exciting. Mom got home and took me for a walk -- her knee has been sore so we didn't go too far and we moved kind of slow, but I like being outside where I can strut my stuff. When we got home, mom was doing some weird stretches on the floor when I heard her scream ... I guess a big black cricket surprised her and landed in front of her. She didn't want to smack it with her hand and went to get up to get something to catch it with, but it disappeared. But, I found that son of a bug later and killed it for my mommy ... and left the evidence on the carpet for her this morning so she would be proud of me. She didn't like that I left all it's parts spread on the rug but she gave me a belly rub this morning, anyway. I like that I helped her.

Any exciting adventures for you today? Do you have rain like we do? I hate the rain and just want to lay on my blanket in the basement and snore ...

Shiloh
Hey Shiz, got up late again this morning, it's been raining, so I figure breakfast can wait. Looks to be another boring inside day. Yesterday afternoon Mitter Bob took me out while he cleaned up his car. I sat in the front seat while he washed it. When he used the hose to rinse it off, I got very excited. I jumped around to whatever window he was spraying, opened my mouth as if I could catch the water and even scratched the window wit my paws to try to get it open. Stayed dry, however, darn it. When he was waxing, took a long time, I just laid down and listen to NPR. Missy Evelyn, thinking I was bored, came out to get me, but I didn't wanna go in so she left me. When we finished it was time for 'Dinner'. Went to bed early.

Dear Shiloh

Hi Shiz, whata doing? My day was sort of boring. I got up late, took my walk then laid around all morning. Mitter Bob went out for lunch with Mitter Easterday and Missy Evelyn went out to play bridge. Mitter Bob and I took a nap after he got back, but we up before Missy Evelyn got back. Mitter Bob said we would go out to work, I like that, but he mowed the lawn and I don't like that. The mower bothers me. Then I went back to digging at the wall. That wasn't much fun today - I only did 1/2 hour. Dinner, plus some roast beef scraps, yum, yum good. After dinner we all played with my tennis ball. Now Mitter Bob is having strawberry ice cream and sharing a little bit wit me. B

Bouncer!

Bouncer B! Good to hear from you! I miss you already! I'm sorry I was so emotional when you were leaving - but I thought you all were going for a ride and weren't going to take me. I LOVE to ride in cars and I was afraid you were going to forget me. Of course, then you were gone all day so I figured you must have left --- my mom came home and explained to me that you had gone home, but told me that I would get to see you and our other canine family member, Grizz (yes, Grizz and Shiz!) in a few weeks, so that made me happy!

Mom took me for a nice walk yesterday evening --- I was glad to go since it was running, but I still had to dodge some puddles so my feet wouldn't get wet --- I don't know why you like the water so much!! I hate getting wet - it just ruins my hair!!! During our walk, I pranced around, and even got the attention of some neighbors I had not met before who kept saying how pretty I was and asking what kind of dog I am. I just wanted to yell "I'm a mutt, the best kind" but mom did most of the talking and I sat patiently waiting for her so we could keep going. When we got home I got a minty treat and a belly rub ... I was so happy! Guess it makes up for not going in the car!

I'm enjoying the new wood floors and especially the yellow rug that I love to lay on. I also saw that you left my old raccoon doll ... you killed him good. You know, you could have taken him home - I got bored with him and you always have fun shaking him. Remember to take him next time you visit. I still have my porcuipine! Besides, I prefer sleeping to playing ...

My sister, Thibby, finally came out again today - I guess it is because you were gone. She really doesn't seem to like you. I feel bad that I didn't get involved when you all had your big brawl in mom's bedroom - I just couldn't take sides; Thibby is my sister and I have to live with her everyday, and my mom loves her - so I couldn't fight with you even though you are like a brother to me (although technically my uncle) and a member of the canine family. Hope you don't mind ... I don't know what Thibby will do when us 3 Flora dogs are here ... maybe you could take it easy on her? She is a very nervous cat ... think about it!

OK, I have to go now ... I hope to hear more of your adventures with wildlife.

Shiloh

Dear Shiloh ...

Shiz ...

I hope you don't mind if I call you that. I was sorry that you were so unhappy when I had to leave today.

After Mitter Bob checked his email and stuff he took me out back on the long leash and I sniffed around over all my places. When Mitter Bob went to pruning and planting a shrub, he put me on my run where I sniffed some more. Then by the little rock wall by the irises, I thought I was onto something, I don't know what, a field mouse or something. So I began digging under the wall and did so for a couple of hours and didn't really find nuttin. But after the long car ride I needed to do something. I even moved heavy flat rock with my nose. Mitter Bob says he will have to rebuild about 4 feet of wall. He also said when my head was down where I was digging that my penis hung down as long as my tail. My tail was ticky-tic all the time I was digging he said. Regards, B

P.S. I agree wit you, EZ Pass takes the fun out of toll booths.
